Eyelash growth
A plain-English guide from Dr. Auston Eckert — what actually grows lashes, and what's just mascara in disguise.
What's actually going on
Thin or sparse lashes can come down to genetics, age, or simply over-handling. A handful of treatments genuinely lengthen and thicken lashes over a couple of months — most everything else on the shelf just coats them temporarily.
What tends to help
- Being gentle — skip the curling and tugging
- Removing eye makeup without rubbing
- A proven, prescription lash treatment used consistently
- Giving it time — real change takes 8–16 weeks
What I'd skip
- Harsh waterproof formulas and constant rubbing
- Unproven 'growth serums' with no evidence
- Expecting overnight length
