Hair loss

A plain-English guide from Dr. Auston Eckert — male and female pattern hair loss, what slows it, and what genuinely regrows.

What's actually going on

Pattern hair loss is the most common kind, driven largely by genetics and hormones. In men it usually shows up at the hairline and crown; in women, as overall thinning. The earlier it's treated, the more hair you keep — protecting what you have is far easier than regrowing what's gone.

What tends to help

  • Starting sooner rather than later
  • Proven treatments matched to whether you're a man or woman
  • Consistency — results show over 3–6 months
  • Ruling out other causes, like thyroid or iron

What I'd skip

  • Waiting to 'see if it gets worse'
  • Unproven supplements and gadgets
  • Stopping treatment the moment it works (the loss resumes)
